A 3-month-old boy was killed when his father’s car was struck by a hit-and-run motorist in the Westlake district, Los Angeles police said Wednesday. The crash occurred at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday at Olympic Boulevard and Union Avenue, said Police Sgt. Wayne Ridders of the Central Traffic Division.
The driver of an apparently stolen car heading west on Olympic Boulevard ran a red light and hit a car going south on Union Avenue, Ridders said. The southbound car was occupied by the baby, his mother, father and a 3-year-old girl reported to be related to the family, Ridders said. The 17-year-old mother and baby were thrown from the car.
The baby was dead on arrival at County-USC Medical Center, Ridders said. His mother suffered serious injuries, the 18-year-old father complained of leg injuries, and the toddler reportedly suffered serious injuries, Ridders said. The suspect, described only as a young man, abandoned the car and fled, Ridders said.
