COLLEGE BASKETBALL WCC ROUNDUP : Owens Scores 23, USF Wins, 78-68

Tim Owens scored 23 points Saturday night to lead USF to a 78-68 victory over Gonzaga in a West Coast Conference game at San Francisco.
Owens, who made 11 of 15 shots, keyed the Dons’ decisive run with a three-pointer after Gonzaga (9-6 overall, 0-2 in the WCC) pulled to within 30-28 in the opening seconds of the second half on a three-point basket by Jarrad Davis.
Roy Modkins added 14 points for USF (10-6, 3-0). Davis scored 18 points for Gonzaga.
Portland 66, St. Mary’s 63--Erik Spoelstra sank a tiebreaking three-point shot with 28 seconds left to lift the Pilots to a victory over the Gaels at Moraga, Calif.
Spoelstra also knocked the ball away from Kevin Weatherby of St. Mary’s (5-11, 1-2) as he tried a three-point shot in the final seconds.
Grant Tracy and Mike Mueller scored 14 points apiece for Portland (3-12, 1-1).
