Fidelity Investments To Lay Off 226 Workers: The nation’s largest mutual fund operator, said it is laying off workers because the slumping economy has weakened investor activity. The layoffs will reduce the staff by 3.3% to 6,670. The cuts will affect 151 employees in Boston, where Fidelity is based, 30 in Dallas, 18 in New York City and smaller numbers at other sites.
