Free-lancer Donna Perlmutter has won a Deems Taylor Writing Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. Her winning article, “The Growing Debate Over Minimalism,” was published in 1989 and reported on the 25-year-old controversy surrounding the popular but highly simplified, repetitive musical form.
The awards are given annually in honor of Taylor, who was a composer, music critic and editor who served as the society’s president from 1942-48.
