Teams are grouped into 10 divisions based on state-certified 1989-90 enrollment figures. Divisions will range from I-AA (2,451 or more students) to V-A (95 or fewer students).
Top eight divisions to feature 32-team draws, divisions V-AA and V-A 16 teams. If more than 32 schools elect to participate, qualifying rounds will be scheduled for boys (Tuesday) and girls (Wednesday).
School officials declining to participate must notify the section office through their league representative by 3 p.m. Friday. So far, 49 boys’ teams and 60 girls’ teams--most in divisions V-A and V-AA--have done so.
First-round playoff games begin Feb. 15 (boys) and Feb. 16 (girls). Section championship games are scheduled March 1-2. State regional play is to begin March 5, with regional finals March 9 and state championship games March 15-16.
