Runaway Truck Hits Car; Woman Injured

A 72-year-old woman was critically injured Monday morning when a truck lost its brakes and came to rest on top of her car at an El Cajon intersection, police said.
Seven vehicles were involved in the wreck at El Cajon Boulevard and Chase Avenue shortly before 10 a.m. The only other injuries were minor scrapes.
The wreck occurred when a flatbed truck driven by Sean Murphy, 24, of Lakeside, took the Chase Avenue ramp from eastbound Interstate 8 and veered wildly out of control, police said.
Murphy told police that he lost his brakes as he tried to turn east onto Chase. The truck then struck a sedan driven by James Cook of San Diego.
Cook’s and five other cars were stopped for a red light at El Cajon Boulevard and Chase Avenue. After striking Cook’s car, the truck rolled on top of the woman’s car.
