An Encinitas man died Monday after his car went off the side of Interstate 5 in University City, the coroner’s office reported.
Jimmy Howard Allbritton, a drywall installer whose age has not been determined, was driving home about 5:20 a.m. when the accident occurred.
Allbritton was northbound on I-5 near the Gilman Drive exit when his car went off the road, down an embankment and hit a tree.
He was not wearing a seat belt, the California Highway Patrol reported. Allbritton was pronounced dead at the scene.
