Curbside Recycling Starts Next Month in 2 Areas

Curbside recycling will begin next month in Marina del Rey and Topanga-Calabasas under a pilot program that has been successful in four other county areas, a supervisor said Monday.
The program, initiated in unincorporated areas a year ago, has kept 6,569 tons of recyclable products out of landfills that are rapidly approaching capacity, Supervisor Michael Antonovich said.
Under the program, Altadena, La Crescenta-Montrose, East Pasadena and Hacienda Heights residents set aside newspapers, glass and metal so that private trash haulers can collect those products for recycling. Residents in the Lennox area also may take their recyclables to a center under a county-sponsored program there, rather than leaving it up to the disposal company.
