AFTERMATH OF WAR : Spending: Welcome Home Party

The House Appropriations Committee is getting ready to approve a major spending bill to help pay for the Persian Gulf War, THROWING IN $350,000 FOR A BIG MEMORIAL DAY WELCOME-HOME CELEBRATION. A committee report said it wants the bash “to express the nation’s pride in and gratitude to our men and women in uniform.” The report directs the Army and the National Park Service to televise the celebration and to include at least one military band or chorus. The lawmakers will also work on a second spending bill today for military health insurance, infant care and other programs.
