Construction of the first major department store in Moorpark is expected to bring 150 new jobs to the city next year and hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales tax revenue.
Officials say construction should begin within four months on the K mart at Mission Bell Plaza on Los Angeles Avenue. It should generate $15 million annually in sales, said Neno Spondello, a co-partner in Ventura Pacific Capital Co., the center’s developer.
Cities earn 1 cent for every 6 cents of sales tax, so Moorpark can expect to make about $150,000, Assistant City Manager Susan Cauldwell said.
