World Bank Makes Loan to Iran: The development bank, with U.S. approval, has given Iran its first loan since 1978--the year before Iranian students took hostages at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran. The $250-million loan for earthquake reconstruction is repayable in 20 years. Iran’s fundamentalist Muslim government has been improving its relations with the West in recent months.
