Toshiba to Buy U.S. Chip Firm: In yet another Japanese purchase of an American semiconductor firm, Toshiba Corp. said one of its U.S. subsidiaries agreed to buy San Jose-based Vertex Semiconductor Corp. for about $20 million. Vertex designs and manufactures advanced application-specific integrated circuit chip sets for high-performance electronic systems, Toshiba said.
