Rose Ends Term at Halfway House

Pete Rose ended his three-month sentence at a halfway house Friday but still faces nearly three more months of community service for cheating on his income taxes.

The former Cincinnati Red manager said he will not attend the team’s season opener Monday at Riverfront Stadium against the Houston Astros but will watch it on television.

Rose has worked since Jan. 14 at five inner-city schools, assisting gym teachers with young students, supervising the loading and unloading of buses and answering phones.

Monday, Rose will begin a regular broadcasting schedule on a Cincinnati radio station.

At his present 40-hours-a-week rate, Rose could complete his community service by early July. He is to work with youngsters at a neighborhood center after the school year ends on June 7.
