Abbott Laboratories: The Abbott Park, Ill., pharmaceuticals maker reported record first-quarter profit of $254 million, up 13% from the year-ago quarter. Revenue rose 15% to $1.65 billion, also a record. The company said it achieved the higher results despite a 15% increase in research and development costs.
