USD Women Beat UC Irvine Tennis Team

The University of San Diego women’s tennis team, ranked 15th nationally, defeated UC Irvine, 8-1, Wednesday at USD.
USD’s Tonya Fuller, ranked 14th, defeated Kelly Goldsborough, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 1 singles. Tuck Kacharoen, ranked 25th, defeated Biljana Korac, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.
Kacharoen, Laura Richards, Kara Brady and Paula Hansen were double winners for USD, which improved to 12-9. UC Irvine fell to 13-10.
BASEBALL
UC Irvine handed the University of San Diego its sixth consecutive loss when it defeated the Toreros, 7-6, in 10 innings in Irvine.
In the 10th, the Anteaters’ Al Rodriguez scored from second on a two-out bloop single by Craig Plumley to give UCI (19-20) the victory.
Chad Boyd had three RBIs and two hits, including a squeeze bunt in the top of the ninth, to give USD a 6-5 lead. USD fell to 13-23-2.
A doubleheader between San Diego State and Utah in Salt Lake City was cancelled because of snow.
The Aztecs, second in the Western Athletic Conference at 27-9, 8-2, return home for a three-game weekend series against 14th-ranked Cal State Northridge. It will be the first time SDSU has faced a ranked opponent this season.
