A student helicopter pilot flying solo in northern Ventura County near Piru suffered minor injuries Monday when he crashed his craft in the bed of the Santa Clara River near the Los Angeles County border, authorities said.
Vick Uemura, 37, complained of neck and back pains and was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia.
The hospital’s nursing supervisor declined to disclose Uemura’s condition Monday night.
Ventura County sheriff’s deputies said Uemura was flying a two-seat helicopter owned by Klein Helicopters of Sherman Oaks when the chopper fell into the riverbed from a height of 40 feet at 12:30 p.m.
