College Trustee Will Resign

Longtime El Camino Community College Trustee Gerald M. Hilby will resign May 1. Hilby, who has served on the board for five terms, gave no reason in the letter of resignation he sent to the Los Angeles County Office of Education on April 22.
A college spokeswoman said Hilby left to pursue business ventures outside the state.
Hilby, a retired Manhattan Beach attorney and the current president of the college district’s board of trustees, was elected in 1973 to represent the South Bay Union High School District. Board Vice President Lila Hummel, who represents the El Segundo Unified School District, is expected to be named president.
Hilby’s unexpired term will be filled in the November election. The board will announce in early May how the position will be filled in the interim.
