The eighth annual Oxnard Strawberry Festival, which drew 70,000 people last year, will be held May 18 and 19, organizers announced Wednesday.
The festival will be held at the 14-acre Strawberry Meadows of College Park, near Oxnard College.
The festival will feature a strawberry shortcake eating contest, a strawberry tart tossing contest, strawberry blond competition and a waiter/waitress race.
Puppet shows, a petting zoo, clowns and face-painting artists also will be on hand. Admission will be $4 for adults and $2 for seniors and children under 12.
The festival is aimed at highlighting the city’s premier crop. The Oxnard area produces 25% of California’s strawberries.
