Martha Pinto of Katella High School, one of the best female distance runners in Orange County prep history, signed a letter of intent to attend Kansas State in the fall, Kansas State Coach John Capriotti said Monday.
Pinto won four Orange County cross-country titles in four years. In track, she recorded the fifth-fastest 3,200-meter time (10 minutes 42.51 seconds) in county history last spring to place second in the State championship.
Pinto also visited Utah State and Cal State Los Angeles.
Outfielder Jonathan Petke of Capistrano Valley High School has signed a letter of intent to attend the University of California in the fall, according to Capistrano Valley Coach Bob Zamora.
Petke, a three-year starter, visited Harvard, Yale and Washington State before choosing Cal. He has a 3.94 grade-point average at Capistrano Valley and plans to major in engineering.
North Coach Doug Elliott of Sunny Hills High School and South Coach Vince Brown of Tustin have selected their assistant coaches for the Orange County All-Star baseball game scheduled for June 4 at Anaheim’s Glover Stadium.
Chris Pascal of Kennedy and David Torres of Anaheim will be the North assistants. Bob Canary of Dana Hills and Bob Ickes of Mater Dei will be the South assistants. The rosters will be announced Saturday.
