New England Investment Cos., Boston, has named Henry L. P. Schmelzer president of New England Securities. Effective June 1, Schmelzer succeeds Donald C. Day, who is retiring after nearly 19 years as president. Schmelzer joined New England Securities in 1972 and was appointed executive vice president in 1989.
