CAMPUS CRIME: If your car gets stolen...

CAMPUS CRIME: If your car gets stolen from the UC Irvine campus, you’ve got a much better chance of getting it back than if your bike is lifted. The annual report on campus crime, above, shows that none of the 97 bicycles taken in 1990 were recovered. There were 43 cars stolen, and nearly half were found. . . . Campus Police Chief Mike Michell says most bicyclists don’t keep records of their bikes’ serial numbers, so it’s hard to recover them. Cars are “usually found not too far from campus,” often with bucket seats and stereos gone.
