Todd Bodine won his first NASCAR Grand National race as Davey Allison’s car fell off pace shortly before the final lap under the caution flag in the Budweiser 200 at Dover, Del.
Two leading cars faded during the final three laps on the one-mile oval.
On Lap 185, Ernie Irvan took the lead from Harry Gant, but his engine failed with three laps remaining to give Allison the lead.
As Irvan’s car was pushed from the track and Allison prepared to take the white flag behind the pace car, his Chevrolet slowed, starved for gas with the banked track keeping the three gallons in his tank from reaching his engine.
