Caltech Receives $300,000 for Research

Caltech has received $300,000 from the Donald E. and Delia B. Baxter Foundation of Pasadena to support the development of technology to map human chromosomes automatically.
The money will fund research conducted by Leroy Hood, professor of biology and director of the National Science Foundation’s Science and Technology Center for Molecular Biotechnology at Caltech.
The foundation has given more than $1.5 million since 1983 in support of Hood’s work. The foundation was established in 1959 to support research and development at educational and scientific institutions.
