The Boys and Girls Club recently received a $130,000 grant from United Way of Orange County.
The money will be used to provide programs for the hundreds of children who come to the center after school, Jean Morgan, executive director, said.
“United Way funds enable the Boys and Girls Club to meet the challenge of the ‘latchkey’ problem,” Morgan said, adding that more than 100 children from 15 area schools are transported to the center each day.
The club also offers classes for special-education students and a dental clinic for low-income children.
According to the agency, Orange County child-care facilities can accommodate only 21% of the nearly 300,000 children who need such services.
