DIAGNOSIS: Fernando Valenzuela should be back on the mound soon despite a heart abnormality detected Tuesday in tests at St. Joseph Hospital, the Angels said (C1). . . . People with the artery defect found in Valenzuela generally suffer no problems or chest pain and don’t have to change their lifestyles, said Jonathan Tobis, UCI Medical Center’s chief cardiologist. “In general,” Tobis added, “this carries a very good prognosis.” But Tobis added that if he were Valenzuela’s doctor, he would advise him to “lower your cholesterol and lose weight.”
