Former Commissioner A. B. (Happy) Chandler was remembered as a person who cared about sports and people during a memorial service at the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
Chandler, also a former Kentucky governor and U.S. senator who died Saturday at 92, was eulogized by Bowie Kuhn, another former commissioner; Gov. Wallace Wilkinson, to whom Chandler was a political godfather, and Charles Wethington, president of the university.
The crowd included Dodger President Peter O’Malley, Hall of Fame shortstop Pee Wee Reese, and owner Marge Schott of the Cincinnati Reds.
