Julijonas Steponavicius, 79, Lithuanian archbishop exiled by Soviet authorities for 27 years. He was arrested in 1961 at the height of the communists’ campaign against the church in Lithuania, traditionally the Soviet Union’s stronghold for Roman Catholics. Steponavicius lived in exile until 1988, when he returned to Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital, after the warming of relations between the Soviet government and the Vatican. On Tuesday in Vilnius.
