SIMI VALLEY : Council Expected to OK Sewer Rate Hike

The Simi Valley City Council is expected today to approve monthly sewer rate increases for residential and commercial customers.
The new rates would increase the monthly service charge for homeowners from $10.22 to $12.58, said Ronald Coons, director of public works. Service fees for those living in apartments would go from $7.66 to $9.44, while those living in senior citizen housing or mobile homes would see a jump from $6.13 to $7.55, he said.
Similar increases are expected to be approved for commercial and industrial customers, whose monthly fees are based on the amount of waste water discharged into the city’s sewer system.
The City Council also will consider raising sewer connection fees for single-family houses from $2,278 to $2,331.
Sewer fees and connection charges are adjusted annually by the council based on the rate of inflation.
Coons said the new sewer rates for single-family houses--$12.58--would still be less than the county average of $15.51.
If approved by the City Council, the new rates would become effective July 31.
