Local businesses have donated $4,200 to help pay for family-oriented concerts at the city’s recreational center and for anti-drug programs sponsored by the Police Department.
The City Council was presented with a $3,000 check from the Huntington Beach-Fountain Valley Assn. of Realtors to fund this summer’s Concert in the Park series. The donation will pay for the family-oriented concerts held free of charge at the Fountain Valley Recreation Center’s north multipurpose field.
The concert series will feature a band every fourth Thursday of the month, beginning this week with the surf band the Sandblasters. The program continues with the big-band sound of the Howard Reynolds Band on July 25 and ends with the bluegrass music of the Andy Rau Band on Aug. 22. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and lawn chairs.
Hyundai Motor America donated $1,200 to the Police Department’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program. The auto manufacturer also announced that it would provide a 1992 Hyundai Elantra in September. The four-door sedan will be identified as a program vehicle and not a police car.
It’s the second monetary donation the auto company has made to the DARE program. The money will be used to buy materials and T-shirts for youths participating in the program, said Police Chief Elvin Miali.
