A Film Guide

I went to see “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves” starring Kevin Costner. I then came home and read the review by Times film critic Kenneth Turan. (“ ‘Robin’: Medieval Dash, New Age Muddle,” June 14). I enjoyed it tremendously--the movie, that is.
Instead of a film critic, how about hiring a film guide? A guide could help us decide whether to spend $7 for a movie at a theater, $3 to rent the video, or to see it on cable. Such a writer could give us historical perspective and inside information, rather than lessening our enjoyment by giving us the plot line.
Most of us would like to read the review before we go to see the movie. As it stands now, we don’t dare.
