200 Africanized Bee Swarms Found in Texas

HOUSTON — Up to 200 swarms of Africanized honey bees have invaded South Texas but are unlikely to attack, a researcher said Friday.
Ninety percent of the swarms were detected within 10 miles of the Rio Grande, Dr. John Thomas, Texas Agricultural Extension Service entomologist, said. About 600 deaths have been attributed to the bees, mostly in South America. Thomas said the bees must be provoked before they will attack.
