Narcotics Unit Disbanded After Few Drug Seizures

A six-man narcotics unit assigned to the Burbank Airport has been disbanded after two months of full-time work resulted in less than an ounce of cocaine and $50,000 in cash being seized from suspected drug smugglers.
The plainclothes detectives, assigned to the unit in April from five police agencies, were returned to their previous narcotics assignments after reporting that there was not enough drug activity at the airport to justify their full-time status. Officials said sporadic anti-drug operations will continue at the airport.
“There were six men out there and they just didn’t feel there were 40 hours of work apiece for them each week,” said Burbank Police Lt. Art Moody.
