COUNTYWIDE : Elys’ Sentencing Postponed to Sept. 6
- Share via
The sentencing of Ventura Community College District Trustee James T. (Tom) Ely, scheduled for Friday, will be postponed, probably until Sept. 6, a prosecutor said Monday.
Ventura County Deputy Dist. Atty. Carol J. Nelson said she received notice that probation officials have not completed their pre-sentencing reports on Ely and his wife, Ingrid Ely.
Such reports typically examine the background of offenders and lay out the aggravating and mitigating circumstances of the crimes.
Tom Ely was convicted in June of 29 counts stemming from the theft of more than $15,000 in public funds. He faces up to six years in prison. Ingrid Ely, convicted of three counts, could get a maximum of three years.
Still scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday is a hearing before Superior Court Judge Lawrence Storch on a motion for a new trial.
