Investigators looked into the fatal shooting of a civilian by military police at Camp Pendleton Marine Base. Jim Poyyak, 36, of Yorba Linda, was shot during a struggle with a military police officer who had chased him as he drove his truck through the base Saturday, officials said. Poyyak failed to stop around 3 p.m. when entering the San Luis Rey gate, which is considered the back entrance to the sprawling base and is near the compound’s headquarters, said base spokesman Cpl. Mike Wanjura. Base officials said it was not known whether Poyyak had a weapon. The Naval Investigative Service was investigating the shooting.
