Monterey Park : Ex-Manager’s Claim Denied
- Share via
The City Council on Monday rejected a claim for monetary damages filed by ousted City Manager Mark Lewis, who alleged that he was illegally removed from his post last month.
In his claim, Lewis accused three council members of holding an illegal secret meeting before they voted to fire him July 22, and later defaming him. The council members deny wrongdoing.
The rejected claim was the first step toward filing a lawsuit. Lewis plans to sue the city but may settle for a better severance package, according to his attorney, E. Day Carman.
The city has agreed to pay Lewis five months of his annual salary of $89,000, but Lewis is asking for an unspecified larger amount.
