Covina : Fire Chief Will Retire
Fire Chief Carl Johnson will retire Dec. 30, after nearly 36 years as a Covina firefighter.
Johnson, 61, began his career in February, 1956, and worked his way up through the ranks to become assistant fire chief in 1964 and fire chief in 1976.
Battalion Chief James Murphy will serve as interim chief until city officials complete a feasibility study on whether to contract with Los Angeles County for fire service, Johnson said.
If officials decide not to let the county take over the city’s fire services, they will seek a new chief, he said.
