DIVISION I-AA ROUNDUP : In another Division I-AA second-round game:

Simi Valley 55, Dana Hills 41--The host Pioneers, the Times’ fifth-ranked team in the San Fernando Valley, scored just five points in the second quarter and looked particularly sloppy at times, but still proved too much for the outmanned Dolphins (14-13) in a second-round game.

Simi Valley (22-5), which made an 11-0 run to take a 14-4 lead in the first quarter, turned the ball over eight times in the second quarter and watched the Dolphins cut the lead to 19-18 at halftime on a five-foot jumper by center Bob Hefty.

Dana Hills stayed in the game early almost solely on the performance of Hefty (15 points), who scored 13 of the Dolphins’ 18 first-half points.

But, Hefty was not a threat in the second half and neither was Dana Hills as Simi Valley increased its lead to 11 points at the end of the third quarter on a breakaway layup by Jeremy Roberts.

Simi Valley converted 11 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter and led by as many as 17 points late in the game, bringing Dana Hills’ season to an end.
