Camarillo High’s Jeremy Fischer cleared a personal best of 7 feet 1 inch in the high jump Saturday, the best boys’ outdoor mark in the nation this year.
Fischer, whose previous best was 7-0, won the event in the Santa Barbara Easter Relays at Santa Barbara City College. Additionally, the junior won the long jump with a personal best of 22-1.
Fischer moved into a tie for sixth on the all-time regional list in the high jump. He ranks second on the all-time Ventura County list behind Ken Burke, who cleared 7-2 for Westlake in 1984.

Northridge Invitational--Teresa Stricklin of host Cal State Northridge finished second in the shotput and the discus to highlight performances by Matador athletes.
Stricklin, a sophomore, put the shot 46 feet 8 3/4 inches and had a season best of 154-0 in the discus.
In other events, Erick McBride of Cal State Bakersfield and Tom Parker of Advantage Athletics were victorious in the 800 meters and pole vault, respectively.
McBride, a former standout at Palmdale High, timed 1 minute 51.65 seconds and had the ninth-fastest time in the 400 (49.55).
Parker, runner-up in the 1987 state championships for Notre Dame High, cleared 16-4 3/4 in the pole vault and had a narrow miss on his second attempt at 17-3, brushing the bar with his chest on the way down.
“Technically, that was the best jump of my career,” Parker said. “It felt really good.”
