SANTA ANA — An Orange County Superior Court judge dismissed a murder charge Friday against James Richard Grant, one of four San Clemente men charged in a drug-related killing.
Citing a lack of evidence, Judge David O. Carter dropped the first-degree murder charge and ordered Grant released from the Orange County Jail.
Steven Lewis Coyne, a 29-year-old transient, was shot twice on July 5, 1992, in a San Clemente alley and later died of his wounds. The three other men, also charged with first-degree murder, were ordered to return to court next month. They are James Warren Anderson, Matthew Allen Dobbs and Todd Eugene Snow.
