World IN BRIEF : BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA : U.N. Forced to Make Big Cuts in Food Aid

Aid rations for more than a million people in central Bosnia will be cut in half, the United Nations said, because of an upsurge in fighting and a shortfall in contributions from donor nations. A spokesman for the U.N. high commissioner for refugees said the cuts, starting today, could last for more than two months. That forecast was based on the current level of fighting between Muslim and Croatian forces in central Bosnia. If hostilities escalated, the supply of food would be cut further.
