Woodbridge Stops Comeback by Foothill

IRVINE — Senior tailback Bill Atkinson scored two touchdowns to lead Woodbridge High School to a 14-7 nonleague victory over Foothill Friday night at Irvine High School.
Woodbridge (2-0) had to hold off a late rally by Foothill (0-2)
Trailing, 14-7, the Knights got the ball back on their 35 with 49 seconds remaining.
They moved to the 50 with nine seconds left, but quarterback Kevin Daft connected with Augusto Ramos for a two-yard pass play as time ran out.
Woodbridge had moved ahead, 14-7, on a three-yard touchdown run by Atkinson with 9:30 left. Atkinson rushed for 44 yards in 29 carries for the Warriors.
Foothill tied it, 7-7, on a one-yard touchdown run by Ethan Taub with 4:19 left in the third quarter.
Woodbridge took the lead when Atkinson scored on a one-yard run with 1:34 remaining in the first quarter.
Foothill was led offensively by Daft, who completed six of 17 passes for 44 yards, but was hurt by eight penalties for 100 yards.
Woodbridge quarterback Matt Sauk completed six of 14 passes for 80 yards.
