Marine Exercise May Affect San Clemente

CAMP PENDLETON — Marines will be detonating explosives on base today between noon and 6 p.m., and San Clemente residents might feel ground vibrations or hear loud noise, a base spokesman said.
The exercise is intended to give Marines practice in using explosives to clear obstacles blocking the movement of troops and supplies, Capt. Ralph Mills said.
The training on the northern area of the camp might affect residents in San Clemente, Fallbrook and Oceanside, he said.
“We don’t want people to be caught off guard when they hear explosions in the area,” Mills said.
