Three San Gabriel Valley schools will be among 207 honored as national Blue Ribbon Schools at a White House ceremony Oct. 21-22.
Local schools to be honored are: Brightwood Elementary School in Monterey Park, Ramona Convent Secondary School in Alhambra and Walnut High School.
The awards to public and private schools recognize excellence in leadership, teaching, student achievement and parental involvement. Nominated schools, which were recommended by state education agencies and other governmental authorities, provided information on their programs. School administrators visited nominated schools and submitted reports to reviewers, who made recommendations to U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley for the final selection.
Each winning school will receive a Blue Ribbon flag and plaque.
