* Re “U.S. Attorney Asks Court to Erase Criticism,” Oct. 4:
We are troubled that U.S. Atty. Terree Bowers is more concerned about the reputation of his ambitious young prosecutors than with the rights and freedom of the men and women who have much more to lose in the federal courts. Prosecutors have an ethical obligation to be mindful of the lives that are at their mercy and therefore to do justice and not just exercise power.
Bowers would better serve the reputation of his assistants by instilling within them professional values rather than spending resources playing cleanup after the prosecutors make grave ethical errors.
