GLENDALE : Event to Honor Aides of Boxing Program

City officials will hold an open house Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. to recognize groups and volunteers who helped set up the Glendale Youth Boxing program.
The program, sponsored by Glendale police and the city’s community development staff, first opened in June for three days a week to middle school and high school students in the Glendale Unified School District.
The center at the Glendale Presbyterian Church is open from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and has continued to attract an average of 20 to 30 teen-agers per session, officials said. Students are taught self-defense, discipline and teamwork.
“The parents have been overwhelmingly in support of the program,” said Moises Carrillo, a senior administrative analyst for the community development department.
