Arcadia : Vons Plans to Lay Off 250

After posting a $20.9-million third-quarter loss, the Vons Cos. unveiled a restructuring plan Tuesday that calls for laying off 250 employees--including 11 vice presidents--from its administrative headquarters in Arcadia and closure of 11 stores across the Southland.

The 250 Arcadia layoffs will affect clerical workers, support staff and some department heads. The sites of the store closures were not announced.

Restructuring will cost the grocery giant $56.9 million, said Mary McAboy, vice president of corporate communications for Vons. That sum includes severance packages for the laid-off employees as well as other miscellaneous expenses, she said.
