Not All Bad to Be Left Out in Cold

Cold weather throughout Southern California slowed fishing activity the past week, although some die-hards did well.
At times, Cliff Whitehead of Apple Valley was in the only boat on Silverwood Lake, where there was two inches of snow and temperatures near freezing. But he returned with 30 1/2- and 28 1/2-pound striped bass.
However, Big Bear Lake, which got eight to 12 inches of snow, seemed to be shutting down for the winter as snow-making machines geared up for skiing.
