CITY SECTION FOOTBALL ROUNDUP : Carson Defense tops El Camino Real, 19-6

Carson High may not be the City football power it once was, but the Colts proved they still have enough defense to be a threat to win the City Section 4-A Division title.
The Pacific League champions held El Camino Real (7-3-1) to 138 yards en route to a 19-6 victory Friday night in a first-round playoff game at Gardena High.
“I prepared them (El Camino Real) very well, and I was embarrassed by how they played,” El Camino Real Coach Mike Maio said afterward.
However, most of El Camino Real’s offensive woes were a direct result of a tenacious Carson defense. The Colts (7-4) established the tone of the game on the Conquistadores’ first offensive play. Defensive back Daks Blanks hammered the ball loose from receiver Joey Maiden with a jarring hit.
Quarterback Ryan Venturine of El Camino Real completed just six of 21 passes for 61 yards and one touchdown, a 25-yard strike to Michael Cooper on the game’s final play. Venturine threw two interceptions.
Carson managed only 171 yards in total offense, but the Colts used a pass interception and a 17-yard El Camino Real punt to set up two touchdowns.
