St. Margaret’s set the Southern Section single-game scoring record by defeating South Gate Southeast Lutheran, 151-35, in an Academy League boys’ basketball game Tuesday at Southeast Lutheran.
St. Margaret’s led, 80-15, at halftime and outscored Southeast Lutheran, 71-20, in the second half, including, 39-10, in the fourth quarter. St. Margaret’s passed the mark of 144 set by Ribet Academy against Antelope Valley Christian in the 1990-91 season.
“Our players were definitely going after the record, but we did not try to embarrass them,” said St. Margaret’s Coach Rick Bauer. “We decided that we were not going to let their lack of talent stop us from preparing for the playoffs.”
St. Margaret’s Damian Raibon led all scorers with 37 points and teammate Lupe Rodriguez had 25 points and 18 assists.
Of setting the record, Bauer said: “Breaking the all-time record was good for us, it brought us closer as a team.”
