COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fullerton Wins First-Round Game in Tournament

Brent Coon had three hits and three RBIs to lead Fullerton to a 17-4 victory in the first round of the Cerritos-Rancho Santiago baseball tournament Friday at Cerritos College.
Chad Smith had two hits, two RBIs and a home run for the Hornets (5-3-1). Steve Escobar had three hits and scored two runs for Fullerton.
In another first-round game:
Rancho Santiago 8, Bakersfield 6--Jason Minici had a double, a triple and two runs batted for Rancho Santiago. Kirk Irvine pitched six innings and struck out five to pick up the victory.
In the Riverside Tournament:
Cypress 9, Grossmont 7 (6 innings, rain)--Israel Gonzalez’s second-inning grand slam helped lead Cypress (8-2) to a first-round victory in the Riverside Tournament. The game was called in the sixth inning because of rain.
In men’s golf:
Orange Coast 374, Fullerton 388, Riverside 400, Rancho Santiago 412--Chris Beck from Orange Coast College won medalist honors with a par 72. Ladd Brunner of Fullerton finished second with 73.
